Camelback Castle – it’s for real

A couple of weeks ago I published a picture of Camelback Castle, a Moorish Fortress built into the side of Camelback Mountain. I’ve since had a few people write to ask me if it really exists, so I thought I’d take a minute to share some additional photos and links to find out more about it. Please read on, and enjoy..

The castle was built over a 12-year period in the 1960s and 1970s, and for two decades it was the only residential home built on that part of the mountain. Today it is part of a small (and exclusive) neighborhood. As much as the homes around (below) it are all beautiful, I think they take away from the castle’s uniqueness.

I found an interesting website detailing all of the castles in North America. It seems to be a little bit outdated, and I’m not sure I agree with all his editorial content, but he has the most detailed information on Camelback Castle (formerly Copenhaver Castle) that I found.
