Follow up to swimming pool distribution post

Last week I took a look at the number of homes in ARMLS which sold with and without a swimming pool.  My assumption was that the number with a pool would be much higher in the "inland cities" which didn’t have as much rampant growth during the peak – Glendale, Tempe, Scottsdale, Phoenix, etc.  Conversely, I believed the number would be much lower in the outlying suburbs, which were driven by speculation during the peak.

Was I right?  Here’s a look at the number of homes sold between 2003 and 2006 for a sampling of each type of suburb:

The first chart shows the distribution in some of the outlying suburbs.

The second chart shows the distribution in some of the inner, "core" cities.

The outlying suburbs definitely had fewer homes with pools.  However, I was surprised by the number of no-pool homes in Phoenix, since just about every home in the neighborhood where I grew up had a pool.  Hmmm, maybe a pools-by-zip code post is in my future…
